NSE 4 (FortiOS 8.0)

Fortinet has published the objectives (100 minutes, 50–60 questions, deployment and system configuration weighted 25–35%); the exam page is marked Coming Soon, and the certification announcement lists its release for early October 2026. This path is written for FortiOS 7.6 and will add 8.0 material once that exam is available.

The domains, weights and tasks are Fortinet's, from the exam page. Which lessons teach each task, and how completely, is RouteLearn's own assessment against the details Fortinet lists under each task. Gaps are shown openly and filled as lessons are written.

How to use this path

  1. If firewalls or Fortinet are new to you, start with Fortinet Fundamentals.
  2. Work through the units below in order. Do every lab on a FortiGate VM; the exam expects you to know what the configuration and the diagnostic output look like.
  3. After each unit, answer the practice questions for its domain. Each wrong answer links to the lesson to revisit.
  4. When every domain scores well, take the practice exam (50 questions, weighted like the real one), then go back to your weakest domain.

Some lessons in the outline are still planned. They are shown greyed out and become links when they are published.

FAQ

Are these the real exam questions?
No. Every practice question is written by RouteLearn from the lessons and FortiOS 7.6 behaviour, to test whether you understand each domain. None comes from the exam, and using leaked exam questions breaks Fortinet's certification agreement.
Is passing the practice exam enough?
It is a good sign, not a guarantee. Fortinet sets the exam's questions and pass mark. Use the scores to find weak domains, then study those lessons and practise on a FortiGate VM until the configuration and the diagnostics feel familiar.
What about the FortiOS 8.0 version of the exam?
Fortinet has published the NSE 4 FortiOS 8.0 objectives: the same five domains and tasks as 7.6, 50–60 questions in 100 minutes, and a heavier deployment domain (25–35%). Its exam page is still marked Coming Soon. This path stays on FortiOS 7.6 until the 8.0 exam is available, and the 7.6 exam remains available until Fortinet announces its last delivery date.
