DNS Tools
NSLookup
Query DNS servers directly, like the classic command-line tool. Shows one record type at a time.
How it works
This tool sends a live DNS query for the record type you pick, using the resolver you choose. It then formats the response the way the real nslookup command does in a terminal. That's useful if you're used to reading that output, or if you're scripting against it.
FAQ
- How is this different from the DNS Lookup tool?
- It's the same DNS query, just shown differently. This tool shows one record type at a time, formatted the way the classic nslookup command prints its output (Server / Non-authoritative answer / Name / Address). That's the format engineers usually want when scripting or scanning terminal output.
- What does "non-authoritative answer" mean?
- It means the answer came from a resolver's cache, not directly from the domain's own authoritative name server. That's normal for almost every lookup you'll ever do. A resolver only goes to the authoritative server when nothing is cached yet.
- Why does it only show one record type at a time?
- That matches how the real command-line nslookup tool works by default: it queries an A record, and you switch types with "set type=". If you want every record type for a domain at once, use the DNS Lookup tool instead.
